Good News Stories FROM JSA Provider: JOBFIND Cairns:

Irene Taylor stream 3 came to JOBFIND Cairns in Sep 2010 looking for a job/training opportunity. At the time, Irene 19 years of age was living with relatives out in Edmonton as she decided to change the bush for the city life in Cairns.

From the start Irene demonstrated her enthusiasm and commitment to change her employment and life prospect. Irene commenced immediately to study the Cert II in Hospitality with Jigsaw Training Academy to meet her WEP requirement.   Picture to be inserted here.

As Irene successfully completed her training and was after further training opportunities to upskill in order to pursue a career in the Hospitality Industry, I advised her to apply for the Indigenous Employment Program with Tropical Tourism North Queensland.

Irene successfully completed the training on the 18th Feb 2011 and was offered an apprenticeship with Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort… We at JOBFIND have only received positive feedback of her performance and charismatic personality.

Irene, a young independent Indigenous lady, deserves to be acknowledged for her effort and achievements.

Well done!

Story – BigCat Green Island Reservations Supervisor

Regarding Sala’ progress, she is progressing extremely well.

She has impressed me with her knowledge of computer skills and has taken on board the basics our reservations system very well, she is actually receiving more training in this department as we speak which will lead her onto more complex enquiries. She has been given various tasks with regards to respax our reservations system and can say she is taking her time and been most thorough in the tasks that have been given and certainly exceeded my own expectations in this area.  Picture to be inserted here.

Sala has also been given general tasks from our day to day operations in res and has taken complete ownership of these tasks and I can see the enthusiasm in her with regards in wanting to complete these certain tasks.

Sala has started to gel more with the reservations team and can see she enjoys being part of the wonderful reservations team we have here at Bigcat. She has opened up a lot more and can see she is growing in confidence and importantly isn’t scared of asking questions to the team rather than assuming and making mistakes. The team here has taken her under their wings as well as Andrew and me and I get a general feel we are all fond of Sala.

Andrew and myself will be spending more time with her with regards to becoming more approachable at the counter and communicating more with passengers here face to face as she still seems a little shy in this department, she needs to work on her descriptive language also. I had a brief run through with her when she started just regarding body language, telephone etiquette and basic sales techniques. I am very confident she will improve in this area as she gains more confidence. All in all, Sala is doing very well Lesley and I can only praise her efforts over the last couple of weeks.
