About

Tourism Tropical North Queensland launched the TTNQ Indigenous Employment Program in 2011 in association with the Queensland and Australian Governments.  TTNQ is proud to have signed in support of the Australian Employment Covenant , an initiative committed to closing the gap in employment outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people through our local tourism industry being a significant economic contributor to this region.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland is committed to promoting and working with industry to build a stronger Indigenous presence within the tourism sector.  Anecdotal feedback from industry is that international visitors expect and want to engage with Indigenous Australians.  TTNQ sees this as a tremendous opportunity for tourism locally to do more to give international visitors that quintessential Australian experience but more importantly, provide jobs for Indigenous Australians.

TTNQ anticipates that this employment program will create a conduit for Indigenous workers to enter the workforce and become an integral part of the tourism industry.  31 participants in total will complete this program over a 12 month period.  11 are already on their way having now completed a Certificate II in Tourism and about to commence their traineeship with our industry members.

We are extremely proud to be associated with this program and encourage all industry members to come forward to engage with this program.
